Research Projects
Research and analysis is a core activity to develop a sound understanding and assessment of the significance of, and threats posed to historic buildings and archaeological monuments. Key research interests include the weathering, decay, cleaning, repair and conservation of stone, brick and mortar masonry structures; the architectural and archaeological heritage of coastal and island environment; the conservation of historic buildings and materials in coastal environments; medieval mortar technology; quarrying and sources of historic building materials; and the technology and design of Irish stone monuments. We have undertaken basic and applied research projects since 1997 on a wide range of cultural heritage issues.
